This long-distancefootpath was set up in 1986 to mark the island’s Heritage Year. Inits journey round the Isle of Man the Raad ny Foillan offers avariety of scenery, from the rugged cliffs and mountain moorland inthe south, to the glens, beaches and dunes of the north. It wendsits way through several nature reserves and along a disusedrailway. It passes scenes of historical interest, colourful fishingvillages and peaceful havens. It takes to the road in severalplaces, yet these country lanes have their own charm and littletraffic. The single stretch of main road is of short duration. Thefootpath is never far from the sea or the cry of the gull. It issuitable for the gentle walker to do in short day-walk sections,for the dedicated backpacker, and for the fit fell-runner to set uphis own personal record for the delightful circuit of thisbeautiful island.The Raad ny Foillan path takes walkers right around itsbeautiful coastline in about a week. Splendid scenery, glens,coastlines, wildlife, fishing ports and havens.
